My Reflection
Volunteering is a great thing to do for your community, you’ll become
more social, your confidence will, increase your patience and it will also draw
a smile on others face. At first I had a course where I can serve my country
through volunteering, so I asked the Ms. Rita (academic service) for good
places to volunteer, and she said to me that I can volunteer in the college, so
I thought it was a great idea since its closer to my other classes and I would be
happy to help the students in college. So we told her that we’ll come the next
day and meet our supervisor.
During the first day, MS. Rita took us to where we can volunteer and
meet our supervisor, MS. Ashwini. So we had a little meeting with MS. Ashwini
and we told her about our course and everything and for how long we have to
volunteer. She told us everything that we were going to do through the course,
and she gave us our schedule for volunteering, she also wrote our time-in and
time-out to make sure we are not late for our volunteer.
In the first day of our volunteering, gladly I wasn’t late; she told me
that there will be a graduation ceremony will be held after 4 days, so we had a
lot of work. At first she gave me a list of about 300 graduates with their
phone numbers, and I had to call them and remind them about their graduation
day, I also had to call female graduates, I was a bit shy at first but my
supervisor told me that I must have confidence with ladies also, so I called
most of the graduates, Other graduates came to receive their badge and their
gown.
In the second day, I had to re-arrange the certificate in alphabetical
order and put inside a box, it took me awhile to do that. Then the supervisor
gave me a big pile of papers of absentees record and also put them in
alphabetical order and put them in a file.
On the day of the graduation, I had to arrive early before all the
graduates and arrange the seating numbers, and also MS. Ashwini told me
everything to be done for the day. When students started to enter the gate I
had put them on their seats and I was under a lot of stress. Then they had to
practice for their ceremony, for about half an hour. The ceremony started after
the head master of the college arrived. I saw a lot of smiling faces on the
graduates face as well as their families and friend’s faces; I was smiling and
imagining myself in their place seeing my family happy and proud of me.
In conclusion, my confidence increased in talking with ladies and to be
patient and greet others with a smile even when I’m under stress.
